 Carmen Lagos’s and Gustavo Castillo’s

limited edition giclées

June - July - August

Castilllo & Lagos Studio is about two artists working together for the last twenty years in this wonderful adventure of making art.

Gustavo’s and Carmen’s original watercolors have been exhib-ited and collected by public and private institutions in the United States and abroad. They have now decided to share some of their favorite images with a larger number of patrons and fans. For that they have chosen a new exciting process called "giclée printing".

Giclée is a process that uses inkjet printing to make reproduc-tions of original two-dimensional artwork, photographs or com-puter–generated art.

Please join us on Friday, June 4 at 4:00 PM for the ex-hibit’s opening celebration. Refreshments will be served.

PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT

BY

Candy Childrey and Michael Rosenbaum

Candy Childrey, a native of Carrollton, Georgia, has lived in Coral Springs for the past thirty-two years. As a photographer, her favorite subjects are nature, especially birds, and old broken down vehicles.

Her deep love of photography is evident when viewing her exhibits throughout Broward and Palm Beach Counties. She presently has a Florida/ecology exhibit in Governor Charlie Crist’s office in Ft. Lauderdale. Her exhibits of images from the West, including Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons, hung from November through the end of February at the Hollywood City Hall.

She currently serves as the First Vice President of the Coral Springs Camera Club, the exhibit Chair of the Everglades Chapter of The Photographic Society of America and Exhibition Advisor to the Coral Springs Artist Guild.

As her work developed, so did her deep concern for the protection of our nation’s wildlife. Nature photographers must respect wildlife and be a part of the natural environment rather than an intruder

Michael Rosenbaum, was born in Chicago but spent most of his adult life in New York City. He moved to Delray Beach in 1991.
After moving to Florida, he developed an interest in bird watching and became involved in several environmental protection groups. In 2006 this lead him to purchase his first SLR camera. While photographing, Michael found himself drawn to documenting bird behavior and to portraying wildlife in an interesting , as well as aesthetic, manner. Through his art, Michael hopes to achieve another goal: to have his work inspire others to join him in restoring and preserving the ecological systems that have come perilously close to being destroyed.

Michael has won numerous awards, including Best of Show, Gold Medals in both North America and Europe, and honors in Asia and South America. He teaches advanced bird photography at Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge.

BARBARA WASSERMANCOLLECTION

Barbara Wasserman’s formal art education began at the age of nine when she attended Saturday morning classes for children at Pratt University in Brooklyn, New York. She later attended the Program For Gifted Child Artists at Pratt Institute. Before she finished college her work was already being accepted in various juried shows around Manhattan. The first juror to recognize this talented young artist was Milton Avery at the New York Center Gallery.
She then went on to achieve a BA in Art Education at Hofstra University and an MA in Art Education at New York University, as well as an Engraving Certificate at La Esmeralda – Belle Art de Mexico.
She left New York in her twenties to live in Mexico City. She spent almost twenty years there from the late 50’s to the late 70’s, becoming part of the Mexican art scene. Her recognition included being one of the artists in the University of Texas permanent collection entitled “Image of Mexico II.”
Barbara’s work is exhibited locally in both the Boca Raton Museum of Art and the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art in Florida as well as the Asheville Art Museum in North Carolina. She has also had several gallery shows in the United States and her work was included in a group show at the Jewish museum of Florida in Miami during Art Basel.

Boca Raton is currently Barbara’s home and is where she was recently married. In addition to continuing with her own work, she also teaches art classes one day a week at the Boca Raton Museum of Art.

Photography Art Exhibit @ the library ( Susan and Bob Schwartzman Collection)

Photography is both an art and a science. Photography allows us to express our feeling and emotions, but to do so we need to master the scientific part of the medium. Unlike a painter, who is in direct contact with his subject and his canvas, a photographer is separated from his subject by the camera and from his "canvas" by computers and printers today and by darkroom equipment previously.   Susan and Bob Schwartzman complete collection can be seen @ the library through April.

Misu Bunny's Little Show Minimize

Art Exhibit @ the library (Misoo Filan’s Little Bunny Show)

Highland Beach Library is privileged to have had an exhibit by Highland Beach resident Misoo Filan. Ms Filan currently attends Florida Atlantic University where she is a member of the winter graduation class. Her BFA degree is in Studio Art with a concentration in painting.

Misoo Filan was born in Bronx, NY, moved to Korea when she was a year old and was raised there until she was eighteen. When she came back to the United States, she started painting as a way to communicate her feelings.
Misoo Filan’s large, figurative paintings represent self portraits and the backgrounds portray her childhood. Her favorite medium is acrylic paint mixed with lots of water. According to Misso Filan, “Paint dripping on canvas and on wood panels make me feel relaxed and peaceful.” She imagines her drips as waterfalls of her mind. This spring, she won the Delray Beach Art League Award and is planning to attend graduate school next fall.

Below you will find a sample of the art currently on exhibit at the library.  Stop in to see the rest of this collection.
